Today, Tuesday, July 19, 2016 we begin a new study! Jen Hatmaker's Pulling The Thread.
When we focus on the truth, we become sisters in Christ, bravely following His footsteps wherever they may lead.
You can watch the series #PullingTheThread at RightNow Media or join us at Second Union Church in Guaynabo every Tuesday at noon.
Discussion Questions for Session 1
Throughout history, people have participated in short-term fasts as a biblically-based spiritual discipline to express repentance, humility, worship, dedication, grief, to strengthen prayer, to seek God’s guidance or to overcome temptation.
In her book 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess, Jen says: “A fast creates margin for God to move. Temporarily changing our routine of comfort jars us off high center. A fast is not necessarily something we offer God, but it assists us in offering ourselves.”
Do you have any personal experience with fasting—either from food or from something else?
What blessings did you receive from the experience?
What concerns do you have about the practice?
Consider each of the areas that Jen and her family chose for their fast. Do you see evidence of excess that may be standing between you and God in your own life in any of these areas?
Food / Clothing / Possessions / Media Technology / Spending / Waste / Stress Something else??
Jen invited us each to consider starting with a simple fast of our own.
What kind of fast might you feel God calling you to right now?
